It was only the week before OB1's inauguration I realised something.
Having lived in South Africa for years till April 1984 and getting out before they started instating curfews even in Cape Town -and subsequent 10 year endless chitchat on politics around the braai no doubt- I was mesmerised by Mandela's inauguration and thought, having lived there though that here was a chance for South Africa, [for and] to the world, to show what it's all about.
Toooooooooo bad it didn't happen.
Now however with Obama in, the odds are stacked better - a world power, a back-up inasmuch as himself as from his helpers and, as was the case with SA yet in this instance different, a challenge.
May this chance to improve the world in a general way succeed ten times better then when Mandela got inaugurated, because then, in general, nothing happened. And no, things didn't 'get better' with South Africa. You won't catch me saying things there got worse, though probably they did.
You might still catch me sometime saying that, because basically I think they did [get worse]
Very sad, a golden oppertunity missed.
Then again, who am I to speak, haven't been there since '84 and I may have it all wrong. And just this week came across a great initiative, started just outside Cape Town: AIMS
